Alphabet Cafe for the Hellenic Library of Montreal
Alphabet for the Hellenic Library of Montreal. Proceeds will be contributed to the restoration of the library.
Over the past three years, Greek community members, in a joint effort with Professor Tassos Anastassiadis and his students at McGill University, have been working on the restoration of the Cultural Centre and Hellenic Library of Montreal, currently located on the third floor of the HCGM building. The Library was founded in 1951 for Montrealers and immigrants of Greek origin to have access to literature and interact in their native language. Throughout the years, the library has gathered over 20 thousand books, along with a vast array of photographs, artwork, records, and other various documents and objects from in and around the community. The challenge today is that access to the archives is practically impossible. The library’s board of directors, professor Anastassiadis, and his students, have been coordinating the classification and the reorganization, and plan to digitize many of the materials, including the amazing archive of photos, so that they are preserved and accessible both on-site and online. Alas, the new Hellenic library will require a level of fundraising and awareness. At Alphabet Cafe and Ambros Coffee, we pledge to always stand by the community and represent our Greek Canadian roots proudly, so we are lending our hand and reach to help introduce the project to a broader audience and younger generation. You can visit the library’s social media pages for more information about the project, its progress, and how to contribute. Stay tuned for more.

Freddo Culture at Alphabet:
Our signature drink that marries whipped, iced espresso and cold foam, is one already deeply ingrained in Greek coffee culture, and we are committed to serve it with the quality, substance, and style that it deserves. From its introduction in Greece in the 1990s, as an alternative iced coffee to the traditional Frappe (made from lower-grade instant coffee), which it soon surpassed in popularity, to the advent of specialty coffee in the early 2000s, and up until today, the Freddo may have grown up a bit, but has always kept its spirit. At Alphabet, Freddo is a culture and an art.
