about this coffee

This summer, Ambros has the privilege of carrying coffee from both Fidencio Castillo and his son-in-law, acclaimed producer, Frank Torres; married to his daughter, Francy, an agronomist and respected coffee farmer in her own right.

The Castillo family are coffee pioneers, as Finca El Pedregal is one of the first farms to produce coffee in Arboleda. Most residents here were initially weary of growing coffee due to the low temperatures in this area ranging from 10-12 degrees Celsius. Despite this challenge, the farm has access to many valuable resources such as the Juanambú stream which makes it a great location for producing high quality coffees. An ecosystem of different trees at El Pedregal also draw from this stream and work together to preserve the soil and protect the plantation from harsh winds. Fidencio Castillo has a long history in coffee farming. He initially started with only 1500 Caturra and Colombia coffee trees, but with the help of his family, his farm now has over 20,000 healthy coffee trees in production. Under the influence of their father’s passion for coffee, 3 of Fidencio’s daughters (including star producer Francy, Frank Torres' wife) went to study agronomy and food processing-related degrees. Their ambitions were driven by the motivation to find new techniques for coffee processing. The family’s coordinated efforts to produce high-quality, unique coffees again this season is exciting for us and we are more than happy to share them with all of you.

This washed Caturra drinks easy, while offering nuance, complexity, and fruit notes that remind us of orange, lime, apple and subtle white tea.
